Description

The ALDI Logistic Centres are the core facility within the supply chain to ALDI Stores in every country where ALDI is in business. Aldi have constructed this 59,000 Sq Metre facility on a 30 Acre Site in Mitchelstown County Cork to serve the South and West of the Country. It will provide between 150-200 jobs in the locality and is a vital boost to the region.

The development includes a 43,655 sq. metre. ambient warehouse and an 11,508 sq. metre Chilled warehouse, including a 3,636 sq. metre Office complex linked to the warehouse complex with ancillary building. It has over 2000 BMS datapoints.

McCool Controls were chosen to provide the BEMS and are proud to be the central nervous system of this “backbone” of Aldis operation in the Munster region.

Details

This project was tendered in mid 2010 at a time when the Irish Building industry was in serious decline. Which such a prestigious project came stiff competition. MC3E secured the project through competitive pricing and the superior products of the Elesta BMS which allow us do more with the standard range of BMS equipment.

The project consists of a Central LPHW and Chilled Water Plant serving radiators, Calorifiers, Air Handling Plant and Fan Coil Units as applicable. There is also a significant Gas Fired Radiant Tube installation in the ambient warehouse that is under BMS control. The Controls system is efficient and dynamic only energising main plant when there is a clear requirement from the secondary plant.

McCool Controls BMS also provides close relative humidity control of the of the Chilled Warehouse area to prevent condensation.

As the site is so critical to Aldi there is comprehensive monitoring of the electrical installation on the BMS including main board switchgear, generators and UPS systems.

With such a large site the potential utility costs are staggering. The Elesta BMS provides in-depth monitoring of over 60 electrical meters, water meters and gas meters. Quick reference energy overview pages allow analysis at a glance and energy traffic light system allows intuitive user operation of the BMS.

The Elesta RCO700 series Controller is a Certified BACnet Building Controller and this Cork project has a BACnet link to the specialist refrigeration plant with its proprietary controls system. The BACnet is on board as standard – thus the better the BMS specification – the more competetive McCool Controls are!.

As we monitor and measure such a bulk of critical information there is a requirement for remote access from both locations on site and for senior facilities managmenet off site. As the Elesta RCO View Software is web based as standard this feature was provided to the client at no extra cost.

This high spec high profile project was the perfect fit for McCool Controls.
